Oh, friends! Today I picked up some great purple fabric fur.. or would it be purple fur fabric? Along with a selection of lovely fabrics, also in purples.

I think I know what color the fur on the creature for the Webster's show is gonna be! \o/

Since writing the above... I finished the doll. HAzzah!:

I've said it before and I'll say it again... I love making these little creatures.

Jim's suggested I put together a few of them for sale during art's fest.... I think I'll be taking him up on it... any excuse to make more ;)

Oh, friends! I had such fun :D

Oh Saturday I found a store called: Stich Your Art Out online... it was only 10 minutes away and I managed to convince Dave to go... which is much difficult... (he's cheaper than even I). The store was awesome! Made me wish I had any idea how to work with fabric or thread... other than to wrap it around dolls.

It was beautiful inside... so much natural light pouring in on all the lovely quilting fabrics. I don't think I've seen anything so pretty in a long time... that room full of strips of color. And the section with all the most lovely yarns I've ever seen. Honestly, this store was top notch... nothing wanting. (WHY didn't I look for batting!!! *tears*)

Two pleasant women were manning (would it be ladying?) the shop. So often I get treated with less than pleasant glances and or conduct, but these ladies were nothing but affable.

On top of all this they had wool roving in so many colors I had trouble choosing just a few! (but I wanted a reason to have to go back... ;) And I think I might just have a chance as... by some stroke of luck, the ladies were tossing out a monitor. I think she may have been making the free sign while Dave and I walked in.

I walked out of the craft/art store with wool roving and a thimble... Dave with a flat screen monitor.

\o/

The day after this lovely day with Dave... Jim (the framer), Dave and I went up to Lewisburg, PA, in hopes of some good antiquing. We were not to be disappointed. Upon arriving to the little town... we walked around for some time, up and down main street (everything was closed on Sunday), which was full of interesting stores and more than a few of them were frame shops... at LEAST four on that one block.. probably more like six or seven. I'm not sure if I've simply never been so aware of such things (as I've never had the urge to frame my work... strange that, eh? >< That I'd not value my work?) or if this was truly the framing center for all Pennsylvania!

After wandering a bit we (and by we I mean Jim) asked for directions to this place: Roller Mills.

In the whole of my (rather dull and quiet) life I have never encountered so many glass classes full of bits and bobbles and things older than my entire outing party combined! Room after room after floor of stuff. They didn't allow photos, but I don't think they would have given you a true feeling of the place.

All of this set in a massive old flour mill. Wood beams like you can't see today (due, of course, to the total lack of trees of that size... thank you coal.. I.. I mean progress... not that it's not easy for me to sit here and complain about.... aaahhh I'm off topic) greeted you as you came in... and again, really pleasant people. They never hounded me about my backpack, though I would have been more than willing to hand it over.. I just hate purses and my thighs are far too, eerrr, full to carry a wallet around in my pocket... and the keys just look silly.

We had a wonderful time, if that even needs to be said, how could we not!? Right off the bat I found this crazy mug. Truly one of the strangest items I've ever seen (outside of a movie set). A little (kinda evil looking) satyr (they really we never 'good' characters until Disney! I digress...) functioned as the handle for the tree stump mug. The tree itself was covered in strange symbols and detailing... even the signature on the bottom was kinda creepy... being a hand with (yet) more symboling (I'd no idea that was a real word... but onward!).

Jim fell in love with it instantly.. OH! I forgot! At the bottom of the mug was a naked nymph... the satyr was peeking over the stump to see her. And I knew I'd never drink anything other than water out of them... he would use them for the proper strong ales and grog and or whatever those kids are drinkin' these here days.

He found the matching mug and BOOM! The journey's goal was met! Good antiquing: check... and that was in just the first few minutes of entering the barn of oddities and old stuff.

Drat... I must away to work...

I shall try to remember to continue this store at a later date. o/

I -really- wanted to make a doll with feathers coming out of her forearms... and here I have:

And now I've no idea what to do with her... she's so big. >< Suppose I can try (again) to sell one! Now... to find a place that isn't the store I work at.

._. I want to make more dolls... but I'm totally out of batting... and there is none in town and with gas being so expensive, I don't have it in my to ask if we can go out to find some... suppose it's back to pen and paper for me... which is good as I've simply no more space for creatures... though I've a sketchbook full of ideas... and my brain is busy thinking up more.

O_O maybe if I sell her... I can afford to get gas AND batting!

I'd best go be silly away from the wide web ;)

From sci-fi.com

"The Weinstein Co. will adapt the Jim Henson series Fraggle Rock into a live-action musical feature, Variety reported. Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked!) will direct the film and write the screenplay. The Jim Henson Co. will produce and The Weinstein Co. will distribute.

Just like the series, the film will be populated by a mix of human characters and Fraggle Rock muppets. It will take the core characters Gogo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red outside of their home in Fraggle Rock, where they interact with humans who they think are aliens. The show premiered on HBO in 1983, ran five seasons and was broadcast in more than 80 countries. It posted strong sales recently when the first three seasons were released on DVD.

Weinstein Co. co-chair Harvey Weinstein, who has been steering his company more aggressively into the family film arena, made the marriage with Lisa Henson, who runs the Jim Henson Co. with her co-CEO brother, Brian Henson. Ahmet Zappa will be an executive producer with Brian Inerfeld."

just thought the news was too weird to leave un-pasted. Long Live Fraggle Rock!

I've begun work on, probably, my last show in this town... I can't imagine I'll be asked again... or ever again... so I'd best make it worth seeing! This one will be in July, I think. I have to call and confirm... but I wanted to be on the ball for this one. No last minute rush this time! No way.

Alongside the smaller collection of work this show will sport (this incarnation of the coffee house is pristine.. they don't want nail holes all over, so I've space limited to the area set aside for za pictures...) I'll have a collection of my sculptures. Probably the little creature below, as I think I'll be putting him in one of the sketches. I'll probably make a few of the other character/creature/whathaveyous that are currently tapping at the edges of my sketch books...

shall keep you updated!
